The electronics industry has grown at a breakneck pace during the past few decades, primarily owing to significant advancements in integration technologies and large-scale systems design - in other words, the introduction of VLSI. Nanodevices have revolutionized the electronics market and human life; they have impacted individual lives to make them more convenient. They are ruling every sector, whether electronics, energy, biomedicine, food, environment, and communication. Low-power VLSI device designs have gotten much attention in recent years, thanks to the growing desire for high-density portable systems with low power consumption. Compact applications demand low power dissipation, and high efficiency in terms of speed is increasing, which in turn brings out new technologies in this domain. Low power consumption must be satisfied in most of these scenarios, and the equally challenging high chip density and throughput goals. As a result, low-power digital integrated circuit design has evolved into a very dynamic and quickly evolving CMOS design sector. Chip density and operation speed increase, resulting in increasingly complex devices with high frequency. The power dissipation of the device, and hence the temperature, increases linearly as the clock frequency of the chip increases. Furthermore, smaller integrated circuits (ICs) with better functions and faster reactions boost the system’s compactness. This book covers the recent nanodevices which include thin film transistors (TFT), tunnel field effects transistors, and carbon nanotubes, as well as new emerging devices such as nanowires, HEM transistors, and their applications.

IC's first pin is ground, the second is VCC and the third is the melody output. And supply voltage that can be given to the IC is in the range of 1.5 Volts to 4.5 Volts. The UM66T/BT66T is a CMOS type IC and it consumes very small power for the operation. The Melody generator will reset when the power is turned on and then the melody begins from the first note.

The circuit will detect or sense when the water will come in the municipal water supply pipe and switch ON any alarm or water pump. The circuit is using two transistors and few other discrete components and can be operated with any voltage from 5 Volts to 12 Volts DC. It is essential to use the same voltage relay as the operating voltage as if you are operating the circuit with 5 Volts then use a 5 Volts relay or on 12 Volts use a 12 Volts relay because a 12 Volts relay will not be work on 5 Volts operating voltage. The two points marked sensor should be placed at the mouth of the municipal supply line.

A Phase Shift Oscillator is an electronic oscillator circuit that produces the sine wave at the output. It can either be designed by using a transistor or by using an Op-amp as an inverting amplifier and phase shift oscillators are used in audio applications. In the RC phase shift oscillator, the 180-degree phase shift is generated by the RC network, and another 180-degree is generated by the Op-amp, so the resulting wave is inverted by 360-degree. Apart from generating the sine wave output, they are also used to provide significant control over the phase shifting process. Other usages of phase shift oscillators are: 1. Audio oscillators; 2. Sine Wave Inverter; 3. Voice Synthesis; 4. GPS units; 5. Musical Instruments.

This book explores and motivates the need for building homogeneous and heterogeneous multi-core systems for Machine Learning to enable flexibility and energy-efficiency. Coverage focuses on a key aspect of the challenges of (extreme-)edge-computing, i.e., design of energy-efficient and flexible hardware architectures, and hardware-software co-optimization strategies to enable early design space exploration of hardware architectures. The authors investigate possible design solutions for building single-core specialized hardware accelerators for machine learning and motivates the need for building homogeneous and heterogeneous multi-core systems to enable flexibility and energy-efficiency. The advantages of scaling to heterogeneous multi-core systems are shown through the implementation of multiple test chips and architectural optimizations. Machine Learning (ML), specifically Deep Learning (DL), has become the workhorse for emerging applications in vision, audio, sensing, and data analytics. State-of-the-art DL models are incredibly costly regarding model size, computational resources required, and the energy consumption of running the models. Owing to their size and complexity, they can only be deployed on large devices like GPUs typically used in cloud servers or data centers. This book focuses on the first aspect of the abovementioned challenges of (extreme-)edge-computing, i.e., the design of energy-efficient and flexible hardware architectures and hardware-software co-optimization strategies to enable early design space exploration of hardware architectures.
