During the 1940s, the Soviet government, knowing of the American nuclear program, elected to begin work on its own nuclear weapon program. The goal was to create and test the first Soviet atomic bomb within a short time interval to counter a major postwar threat from the West. An important secondary concern became apparent: how to deliver that weapon to the target. Thus, the Tu-95 Bear and the Tu-142, its close relative, were born. The Tu-95 is a large, heavy strategic bomber with a slim fuselage, swept wings, and four powerful turboprop engines driving counter-rotating propellers. It remained in production as a maritime patrol aircraft and cruise missile carrier more than 30 years after it was first produced. The aircraft was revolutionary in the application of a swept wing and turbine powerplants. Yefim Gordon and Peter Davison are the authors of other Specialty Press titles such as Mikoyan Gurevich MiG-15 Fagot, Mikoyan Gurevich MiG-29 Fulcrum, and Sukhoi Su-27 Flanker. Together they use over 200 photos to illustrate the story of the Tu-95. Topics covered include design, development, structural detail, international production, trials, comparisons, and much more. |

Название: Okb Mig: A History of the Design Bureau and Its Aircraft Автор(ы): Piotr Butowski, Jay Miller Издательство: Aerofax, Inc. for Midland Год: 2000 ISBN: 978-0904597806 Страниц: 246 Язык: English Формат: PDF Размер: 51 MB
Following the formal birth of their design bureau in 1939, the Mikoyan and Gurevich design team ascended with extraordinary rapidity into the ranks of the aerospace elite. This meteoric rise was not without justification, as their perseverance had resulted in the development of a number of truly exceptional fighters in an environment that would have defeated a less tenacious pair in short order. Beginning with the MiG-1 and MiG-3 piston engine fighters, their work consistently represented the state-of-the art in the Soviet Union for some four decades and did not end with their respective deaths in 1970 and 1976. Talented engineers such as Rostislav Belyakov were quick to fill the voids left by their mentors, and as result, the legacy of excellence continues. |

Название: Napoleonic Wars Napoleon’s Army Автор(ы): Rene Chartrand (Author), Christa Hook (Illustrator) Издательство: Серия: Brassey’s History of Uniforms Год: 1997 ISBN: 1857531833 Страниц: 144 Язык: English Формат: PDF Размер: 85 MB
Aimed at all those with an interest in the Napoleonic Wars from 1804 to 1815, this is a guide to all the uniforms worn in Napoleon's conquering army, from the famous victory of Austerlitz to eventual defeat at Waterloo. Every unit in the Emperor's army is described, and its uniforms and equipment detailed. There are chapters on what Napoleon and his generals wore, the uniforms of the Loyal Imperial Guard and regular infantry, the glamorous appearance of the French cavalry, including cuirassiers, lancers, hussars and dragoons, as well as the artillery and the engineers. There is also a chapter devoted to the many foreign troops that served under Napoeleon, ranging from the Swiss and Portuguese to Croats and Lithuanians. All this is illustrated by over b&w prints and paintings, many of them contemporary, and some of which have never been published before. |
