One hundred years ago, in September 1918, three things came to Boston: war, plague, and the World Series. This is the unimaginable story of that late summer month, in which a division of Massachusetts militia volunteers led the first unified American fighting force into battle in France, turning the tide of World War I...

Название: Osprey New Vanguard 98 - British anti-tank artillery 1939-45 Автор: Chris Henry Издательство: Osprey Publishing Год: 2004 Формат: PDF Страниц: 48 Размер: 28,3 МБ Язык: Английский
The rapid development of the tank as an offensive weapon following its introduction in World War I gave artillery theorists cause for concern during the 1920s and 1930s. By the beginning of World War II anti-tank guns had been developed, initially at around 37mm and 2 pounds in weight of shot. By the end of the war, monster anti-tank weapons were being developed, able to penetrate an armour thickness of up to 200mm at a range of 1,000 yards.

Название: Osprey New Vanguard 107 - US Anti-tank Artillery 1941-45 Автор: Steven J. Zaloga Издательство: Osprey Publishing Год: 2005 Формат: PDF Страниц: 48 Размер: 25,9 МБ Язык: Английский
The US Army's development of the 37mm anti-tank gun began in response to needs identified during the Spanish Civil War. By the time it entered service in Tunisia in 1943, the gun was already obsolete, and the US began the licensed manufacture of the British 6-pdr in the hope of finding a quick solution to its artillery requirements. This in turn proved unequal to the demands of warfare in France in 1944, and further anti-tank measures were developed – rocket propelled grenades for infantry use, and weapons designed specifically for use by the Tank Destroyer Force.

Название: Osprey Combat Aircraft 40 - PBJ Mitchell Units of the Pacific War Автор: Jerry Scutts Издательство: Osprey Publishing Год: 2003 Формат: PDF Страниц: 96 Размер: 52,9 МБ Язык: Английский
Flown exclusively by the US Marines, the PBJ was one of those rare examples of an air force type being procured by the navy due to its ability to do exactly the job that was required of it. Bought as a land-based patrol bomber for operations in the Atlantic and Pacific during World War II (1939-1945), the PBJ (Patrol, Bomber, North American) was kitted out to hunt down submarines as well as surface vessels.

Название: Eyes All Over the Sky: Aerial Reconnaissance in the First World War Автор: James Streckfuss Издательство: Casemate Год: 2016 Формат: PDF Страниц: 252 Размер: 13,01 Мб Язык: английский
The story told here involves the early American Lafayette Escadrille pilots who were looking for heroic deeds and romantic adventure in aerial combat, as well as the German, British and French aces of popular imagination. But the real value of military aviation lay elsewhere; balloonists, unsung heroes, were an essential part of the observation chain, and forever altered the nature of artillery operations.

They were the Dambusters – the pilots and crew of the RAF’s elite 617 Squadron. They flew the most difficult missions. They breached the Dams! They sank the Tirpitz! They were the only squadron to drop the immense Grand Slam bombs and with them they destroyed bridges, viaducts and even Hitler’s impregnable U-boat pens.
