Who Is This Book Written For? During the conception of this handbook, we thought long and hard about who the audience for this book is and who would benefit the most from it. Especially when you’re already familiar with a topic like user experience (UX) design, deciding who needs what content isn’t an easy task. Much knowledge seems self-evident because of years of experience and daily involvement with a topic. Through our work in our data-driven user experience (also known as 3DUX) design agency, Custom Interactions, and our teaching activities at the Technical University of Darmstadt, we keep coming across the most diverse “levels” of expertise—from complete beginners to seasoned professionals. We have consciously decided not to write this book exclusively for experts but also to offer inexperienced readers a guide and introduction to the wonderful world of usability and UX.
So, we have you in mind if you belong to one of the following groups:
- You’re studying and would like to learn something about the practical application in addition to your studies’ theoretical content and concepts. - You’re new to your profession and dealing with usability and UX design for the first time. - You’re already involved in product development and are responsible for creating or further developing a product. In this book, we’ll cover business-to-consumer (B2C) products (products sold directly to end customers), business-to-business (B2B) products (products sold to companies), and medical devices. - You’re already working in the area of usability and UX and would like to add to your repertoire of methods or would like assistance in selecting the appropriate method.
But of course, we are also happy if you have a different background and are still interested in our handbook. This broad claim about the book’s readership is also reflected in the objectives and structure of our handbook.
