This book is mainly for students and professionals who are trying to learn MATLAB through self-study. This book can be used by anyone who is completely unacquainted with MATLAB. In a step-by-step process, this book tries to teach the readers how to write MATLAB programs in order to solve problems. The book intends to acquaint the user with a number of inbuilt functions and features of MATLAB with specific illustrations in the areas of science and technology. This book is on MATLAB, a software that has become very popular over the years. MATLAB is a high-level computing language which can be used in a large number of areas. The other advantage of MATLAB is the speed with which computation can be done. All these have made MATLAB very popular amongst users. Although a lot of books have been written on MATLAB, this book intends to acquaint the user with a number of inbuilt functions and features of MATLAB. We found MATLAB a very friendly suite which could analyze, process and plot experimental data. Results could be presented in a fashion that is appealing to the viewer. MATLAB is easy to learn and use for the beginners. This book is for the beginners and could be easily followed by students and professionals working in all areas.
We decided to write this book when we found that MATLAB is a really wonderful tool for analyzing data and representing them. You could almost do anything you wanted using MATLAB. S.N. Alam was involved in teaching MATLAB to undergraduates. The students were found to enjoy the course and a number of students in the class tried to explore what new they could do with MATLAB. Plots, matrix calculations, integration, differentiation, solving linear equations, interpolation, image processing, animation, movies, sound and lots more.
Here in order to write this book we have used MATLAB student edition Version 5.0.0.4073 and MATLAB Version 7.11. We would request the reader to solve each example for getting more practice of the language and knowing all the commands. There are a number of solved problems to give enough practice to the reader. The reader should also practise the several functions available in MATLAB and try to write programs using these functions.
