Название: Formulation in Psychology and Psychotherapy: Making Sense of People's Problems
Автор: Lucy Johnstone, Rudi Dallos
Издательство: Routledge
Год: 2006
Формат: pdf
Страниц: 260
Размер: 2 MB
Язык: English

I do like this book quite a lot! It follows two cases through the entire text, one child and one adult case, and explains them through the lenses of the major theoretical schools of thought in psychotherapy, including cognitive-behavioral, systems and psychodynamic psychology. I like also that newer, less traditional models are presented, for example, social constructionist and social inequalities approaches. There is also a chapter on integrative case formulation. My only complaint is that the chapter on psychodynamic case formulation is rather scant and narrow, focusing on Malan's Triangle of Conflict; it would have been beneficial for them to draw upon a dialog about Fred Pine's (1990) synthesis of the 4 primary psychodynamic schools -- Freudian Drive Psychology, Ego Psychology, Object Relations and Self Psychology.

All in all though, it is a very good book and I have begun requiring it for my doctoral students in their psychotherapy courses and seminars.

Название: Neuroimaging of Mental Imagery: A Special Issue of the European Journal of Cognitive Psychology
Автор: Michel Denis, Stephen M. Kosslyn, Emmanuel Mellet
Издательство: Psychology Press
Год: 2005
Формат: pdf
Страниц: 154
Размер: 10 MB
Язык: English

Many topics have inspired significant amounts of neuroimaging research in recent years, and the study of mental imagery was one of the earliest to receive a thorough empirical investigation. Twenty years later, the goal of understanding this pervasive but elusive phenomenon continues to motivate a number of sustained research programs on the part of cognitive psychologists and neuroscientists. The issues at stake are easy to formulate, even if the answers sometimes may be difficult to obtain: Which parts of the human brain are active when a person generates a memory image of an absent object?

Название: The Psychology of Courage: An Adlerian Handbook for Healthy Social Living
Автор: Julia Yang, Alan Milliren
Издательство:
Год: 2009
Формат: pdf
Страниц: 294
Размер: 3 MB
Язык: English

Courage refers to the willingness for risk taking and to move ahead in the presence of difficulties. The purpose of this book is to present courage as the main foundation of understanding and training for mental health in the three life task areas described by Adler: Work, Love, and Friendship.  It explores the meaning of each life task and problems of fear, compensation, or evasion, as well as Adlerian insight on socially useful attitudes of approaching the task under discussion.  Socratic dialog boxes are included throughout each chapter to encourage the interactivity between the text and readers’ thought processes.  Also included is a set of twenty-two helping tools that were creatively designed for self-exercise or to be used to help others uncover or acquire courage.  For those in the helping professions, this text will be a unique and valuable handbook for not only working with and helping their clients, but also for their own personal development.

Название: A Short Introduction to Clinical Psychology (Short Introductions to the Therapy Professions)
Автор: Katherine Cheshire, David Pilgrim
Издательство: SAGE
Год: 2004
Формат: pdf
Страниц: 168
Размер: 542 kB
Язык: English

A Short Introduction to Clinical Psychology gives an accessible overview of the field for psychology students and anyone considering training as a clinical psychologist. Setting out the theoretical and practical dimensions of clinical psychology, the authors examine its origins, knowledge base and applications with different client groups, in different contexts and through different modalities (individuals, groups, couples, families and organizations). They also highlight issues affecting everyday practice - from professional relationships to government policy. Drawing on the first-hand experiences of people who have recently qualified, the book describes the process of training and the transition that takes place from trainee to practitioner. Throughout, the book captures a sense of clinical psychology as a dynamic and changing field which has grown up fast alongside other more established professions involved in mental health care and which is continuing to evolve in response to contemporary needs. As an overview of the field, A Short Introduction to Clinical Psychology is an ideal text for undergraduate and post-graduate students in psychology and as initial reading for clinical psychology courses.
