Название: Methods of Theoretical Psychology (Bradford Books) Автор: Andre Kukla Издательство: The MIT Press Год: 2001 Формат: pdf Страниц: 325 Размер: 605 kB Язык: English Theoretical psychology stands in the same relation to psychology as theoretical physics does to physics. The traditional way to study theoretical psychology is to take up one approach after another--behavioral, psychoanalytic, cognitive, and so on. The aim of this book is not to impart a substantive knowledge of core psychological theories, or even to analyze critically selected theories. Instead, it is to prepare the reader to analyze and advance the theoretical literature in any tradition.A good theoretician should be able to contribute to the study of psychoanalytic theory as readily as to behavioral theory. The skills required are the same. Instead of covering a sequence of theories, therefore, the book is organized around types of theoretical activities. It is not a work in theoretical psychology; it is a book about theoretical psychology. It also confronts psychologists' underestimation of the variety and the significance of theoretical work. Many theoretical issues do not call for empirical research--they require nothing but thinking.

Название: The Middle East: A Cultural Psychology (Culture, Cognition, and Behavior) Автор: Gary S. Gregg, David Matsumoto Издательство: Oxford University Press, USA Год: 2005 Формат: pdf Страниц: 471 Размер: 4 MB Язык: English This is a very good book. I don not know the author and I have never heard about his name before. I found this book by coincidence in a small library somewhere in Vienna and from the from the first minute, I realized that this book is really worthy to read. The only negative point which I found in this book is its langauge. This book is written in very hard english and I think that it is not easy to understand for people, who have not a very good command of english + good knowledge of some theories of social psychology. But: It is a MUST for reserachers and lectureres dealing with social psychology, cross-cultural psychology and the Arab Region. A real new approach away from the well-known and "old-fashioned" dualism of cross-cultual psychology.

Название: Origins of the Social Mind: Evolutionary Psychology and Child Development Автор: Bruce J. Ellis, David F. Bjorklund Издательство: Guilford Press Год: 2004 Формат: pdf Страниц: 540 Размер: 3 MB Язык: English Until now, evolutionary psychologists have focused largely on understanding adult behavior, giving little sustained attention to childhood. Developmental psychologists, for their part, have been wary of the perceived genetic determinism of evolutionary thinking. This important volume brings together an array of prominent developmental scientists whose work is explicitly driven by evolutionary concerns. Presenting sophisticated new models for understanding gene-environment interactions, the authors demonstrate how evolutionary knowledge can enhance our understanding of key aspects of cognitive, social, and personality development. Tightly edited chapters examine how different developmental mechanisms have evolved and what role they play in children's functioning and their adaptation to adult life. Essential topics covered include parent-child relationships, aggression, puberty, infant perception and cognition, memory, language, and more. |

Название: The Psychology of Shame: Theory and Treatment of Shame-Based Syndromes, Second Edition Автор: Gershen Kaufman Издательство: Springer Publishing Company Год: 2004 Формат: pdf Страниц: 375 Размер: 5 MB Язык: English In this classic volume, Kaufman synthesizes object relations theory, interpersonal theory, and, in particular, Silvan Tompkins's affect theory, to provide a powerful and multidimensional view of shame. Using his own clinical experience, he illustrates the application of affect theory to general classes of shame-based syndromes including compulsive; schizoid, depressive, and paranoid; sexual dysfunction; splitting; and sociopathic. This second edition includes two new chapters in which Dr. Kaufman presents shame as a societal dynamic and shows its impact on culture. He examines the role of shame in shaping the evolving identity of racial, ethnic, and religious minorities, and expands his theory of governing scenes. This new edition will continue to be of keen interest to clinical psychiatrists as well as graduate students. |

Название: Cognitive Dimensions of Social Science (Psychology) Автор: Mark Turner Издательство: Oxford University Press Год: 2001 Формат: pdf Страниц: 192 Размер: 10 MB Язык: English What will be the future of social science? Where exactly do we stand, and where do we go from here? What kinds of problems should we be addressing, with what kinds of approaches and arguments? In Cognitive Dimensions of Social Science, Mark Turner offers an answer to these pressing questions: social science is headed toward convergence with cognitive science. Together they will give us a new and better approach to the study of what human beings are, what human beings do, what kind of mind they have, and how that mind developed over the history of the species. Turner, one of the originators of the cognitive scientific theory of conceptual integration, here explores how the application of that theory enriches the social scientific study of meaning, culture, identity, reason, choice, judgment, decision, innovation, and invention. About fifty thousand years ago, humans made a spectacular advance: they became cognitively modern. This development made possible the invention of the vast range of knowledge, practices, and institutions that social scientists try to explain. For Turner, the anchor of all social science - anthropology, political science, sociology, economics - must be the study of the cognitively modern human mind. In this book, Turner moves the study of those extraordinary mental powers to the center of social scientific research and analysis. |
