This book is written to help healthcare practitioners and individuals across academia and research, as well as for those who work in biomedical, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Metaverse, VR, blockchain, and related technologies.
In Chapter 1, we have introduced the concept of the Metaverse. The concept of “metaverse” is considered to be the next technological big bang after the advent of the internet. Metaverse views the internet as an expansive, unified, perpetual, and shared kingdom. Even though the implementation of metaverse is still considered to be future-bound, because its underlying philosophy is destined to integrate technology and digitize every aspect of our daily lives, and to achieve such modernization, it is paramount to further improve technologies like extended reality (XR), artificial intelligence (AI), and 5G, which are still not up to the standard needed for the metaverse implementation. The motive of this paper is to describe the salient tech development phases through which the metaverse should pass to get implemented in a large-scale environment. Alongside this, we also look after the current tech implementations that have already been made and closely examine their limitations to determine their functional efficiency in the metaverse. Therefore, giving the notion that the metaverse is not any disjoint technology rather it is an intelligent consolidation of various technologies that are already prevailing or will be invented in the future which is analogous to the elements that has conjoined in an orderly proportion to form our mother Earth.
In Chapter 2, we have introduced the digital transformation in healthcare. The digital transformation in healthcare is accelerating, powered by the convergence of the Metaverse, AI, the Internet of Things (IoT), and blockchain technology. This review paper provides a comprehensive analysis of these technologies’ role in reshaping healthcare from an engineering perspective.
Core technologies facilitating the Metaverse include VR, AR, MR, and XR. VR offers full immersion via headsets disengaging users from physical reality. AR overlays digital information onto the real-world through mobile devices. MR blends physical and virtual worlds for enhanced interactivity. XR encompasses the spectrum from VR to AR.
