Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) have been widely used in the electric vehicles (EVs) due to their high-power density, large torque-to-inertia ratio, high reliability, etc. This book involves emerging control strategies of the non-salient and salient PMSMs operating in the flux-weakening region. The optimization algorithms, such as adaptive velocity particle swarm optimization (AVPSO) and genetic optimization (GA) algorithms, are also presented, including the offline optimization pro cedures. The advanced control strategies like improved field-oriented control (FOC) and model-predictive control (MPC) are explicitly investigated in detail.
The parameters optimization presented in this book is based on the new cost function of the error value matrix for the proportional-integral (PI) controllers. A new cost function is deduced from the Taylor series expansion form to obtain the linearized equilibrium part of the advanced control strategy. Additionally, the stability terms are considered to obtain high performance in speed tracking at the flux-weakening region. In this book, a real-time AVPSO algorithm is used in the continuous control model predictive control. An adaptive discrete linear predictive model is formulated to represent the model plant across all regions of the four-quadrant control region. Moreover, the finite control set optimization technique is presented to predict the future behavior of the linear MPC drive of a salient PMSM. The dynamic performance of the advanced control strategies is compared with that of the conventional control strategies to verify the effectiveness of the advanced strategies. Furthermore, this book also presents a systematic analysis of the prototype developmental process and relevant experiments, which will be a good reference for academicians, researchers, and industries, as well as graduate students for their study.
