Materials used as electrodes, electrolytes, and separators, procedures followed, characterization methods, and modeling are covered, along with emphasis on related applications. There are a wide variety of capacitors depending on the practical application. The main categories are variable capacitors and non-variable capacitors. The capacitance value of variable capacitors can be changed mechanically or electronically, as the name suggests, whereas a non-variable capacitor gives fixed capacitance. Capacitors are mainly classified into three categories, namely electrostatic capacitors, electrolytic capacitors, and electrochemical capacitors. EDLC/goldcaps/ultracapacitors/supercapacitors have been considered to be a well-tried alternative energy storage device for the last few decades. |
