Среди ягодных культур важное место занимают крыжовник и смородина. Высокие вкусовые качества ягод, богатое содержание витаминов (особенно в черной смородине) и обильное ежегодное плодоношение способствуют дальнейшему увеличению площадей под этими культурами. Из вредителей крыжовника и смородины наибольший ущерб причиняет огневка.
Гусеницы огневки повреждают ягоды крыжовника и смородины, выгрызая в них главным образом семена и частично мякоть В результате повреждений ягоды загнивают, преждевременно окрашиваются и в дальнейшем засыхают. Урожай при этом резко снижается.
В брошюре, на основе наблюдений автора, а также литературных данных, описаны биологические особенности огневки, а также повреждаемость сортов. Рекомендуется комплекс мероприятий по борьбе с огневкой.
