Название: The Psychology of Environmental Problems: Psychology for Sustainability Автор: Deborah Du Nann Winter, Susan M. Koger Издательство: Psychology Press Год: 2003 Формат: pdf Страниц: 306 Размер: 16 MB Язык: English the subject is an important one. when the authors - professors none the less - end the book by suggesting prayer as way to help the environment - and pepper the book with personal vignettes about communing with nature, meditation retreats and such you wonder what the point was. i am a psychologist and spent good money because i wanted to learn something about the topic. i wish i could get my $ refunded. a joke it is not. but a big let down: yes. do NOT bother do not buy!

Название: Designing and Engineering Time: The Psychology of Time Perception in Software Автор: Steven C. Seow Издательство: Addison-Wesley Professional Год: 2008 Формат: chm Страниц: 224 Размер: 4 MB Язык: English One of the reviewers thought this book was a gem for experienced programmers, I totally disagree. I'm an experienced programmer and I suggested this book for a book club at work. We are all experienced programmers. But I did not find this book that much helpful. I would rather have spent the time it took to read the book doing something else... like reading About Face 3: The Essentials of Interaction Design (again).I probably found two or three concepts interesting throughout the book. In general I think it already states the obvious, uses too much comparisons and has too much images (just for the sake of it - without adding value). A MSDN article with say, 20 pages, would have been more than enough instead of a 191 p book. I expected to get some examples from real life software and to get more insight in software and how to handle time. After reading the book I wanted to get the sense of "Hey! We can do even better software, now let's go and do it!" But instead the book left me feeling like I had wasted my time reading it from cover to cover. When reading Designing and Enginering Time I though that it appears to be a report from a student, like a master thesis report. When discussing the book with a colleague in the book club he said the exact same thing! The last two chapters was ok but it is still a "Don't like it" from me.

Название: Culture in Minds and Societies: Foundations of Cultural Psychology Автор: Jaan Valsiner Издательство: Sage Publications Pvt. Ltd Год: 2007 Формат: pdf Страниц: 385 Размер: 5 MB Язык: English In short, Culture in Minds and Societies: Foundations of Cultural Psychology presents a new look at the relationship between people and society, produces a semiotic theory of cultural psychology and provides a dynamic treatment of culture in human lives. This book makes a decisive break from the post-modernist theoretical framework that considers knowledge as local and situation-specific. It restores the goal of construction of general knowledge to the social sciences. While recognizing the uniqueness of all human personal experience from birth to death, it emphasizes the universality of cultural organization of human minds and societies.

Название: Psychology, Rationality and Economic Behaviour: Challenging Standard Assumptions Автор: Bina Agarwal, Alessandro Vercelli Издательство: Palgrave Macmillan Год: 2005 Формат: pdf Страниц: 285 Размер: 1 MB Язык: English Economics has paid little attention to the psychology of economic behavior, leading to somewhat simplistic assumptions about human nature. The psychological aspects have typically been reduced to assumptions of standard utility theory, based on a narrow conception of rationality, often called "substantive rationality". However, recent work, some theoretic, some based on experimental economics or an empirical analysis of existing data, challenges these assumptions and forefronts the psychological dimensions of economic decisions. The essays in this volume provide a glimpse of this exciting and newly emerging field.

Название: The Lost Art of Compassion: Discovering the Practice of Happiness in the Meeting of Buddhism and Psychology Автор: Lorne Ladner Издательство: HarperOne Год: 2005 Формат: pdf Страниц: 328 Размер: 1 MB Язык: English Now in paperback, this practical guide to cultivating compassion delivers Buddhist and psychological insight right where we need it most—navigating the difficulties of our daily lives. Compassion is often seen as a distant, altruistic ideal cultivated by saints, or as an unrealistic response of the naively kind-hearted. Seeing compassion in this way, we lose out on experiencing the transformative potential of one of our most neglected inner resources. Dr Lorne Ladner rescues compassion from this marginalised view, showing how its practical application in our life can be a powerful force in achieving happiness. Combining the wisdom of Tibetan Buddhism and Western psychology, Ladner presents clear, effective practices for cultivating compassion in daily living.
